Job Description

Job Title: Project Coordinator

Responsible to: Executive Director

Organizational Summary:
The mission of The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa (TIA Iowa) is to promote the positive and healing role of religion in public life by encouraging civic participation, facilitating community activism, and challenging political extremism based on religion.

TIA Iowa was founded in 1996 and is affiliated with the Interfaith Alliance in Washington, DC. TIA Iowa is one of the largest and most successful chapters of the national organization. With a statewide presence through its legislative advocacy and Action Alert network, effective education programs such as presidential Caucus Trainings, and civil dialogue activities on issues of religious freedom and civil rights, The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa is uniquely situated to move progressive values forward. The organization’s supporters include people of faith & goodwill from across the state. Empowering Iowans from the many faith traditions that create the religious landscape of Iowa, TIA Iowa & Action Fund has been an effective and progressive voice countering religious extremists.

Summary of Duties:
-Provide professional leadership for the implementation of the Faithful Voices program.
-Assist in the development and implementation of other organizational programs.
-Provide assistance to the Executive Director in the general management of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities of Project Coordinator:
Develop and implement Faithful Voices, a two year grant program, including:
o Strategic planning to engage progressive faith community and leadership in creating marriage equality in Iowa.
o Program development of Faithful Voices Network and program.
o Implementation of the Faithful Voices work plan, which includes:
Capacity Building
ß Communications & Educational Resources
ß Regional Education Events
ÿ Conduct activities to effectively implement the Faithful Voices program:
o Build relationships with clergy, faith leaders and lay leaders in communities of faith across Iowa who are supportive of marriage equality or who may be moved to that position.
o Build Faithful Voices network through:
ß Faith Leader Strategy Team
ß Faith Community Partners representing five regions in the state
ß Regional Clergy Gatherings
ß Regional Faith Leader Trainings
o In collaboration with website designer, develop and maintain Faithful Voices website.
o Prepare and present informational materials for Faithful Voices, including promotional materials, newsletter articles, website information, and other publications.
o In collaboration with media consultant, develop and implement organizational media strategy for Faithful Voices.
o Organize and staff Faithful Voices meetings, conferences and other events.

ÿ Assist in the development and implementation of other organizational programs and activities.
ÿ Assist in fundraising activities, including the development of funding proposals.
ÿ Assist the Executive Director in the general management of the organization.
ÿ Assist with other duties as is needed.

Qualifications of Project Coordinator:
ÿ A strong commitment to the general mission of The Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, building the progressive voice of faith & goodwill, and creating marriage equality in Iowa.
ÿ A minimum of five years professional experience in community organizing or issue advocacy. Experience should include organizing, educating and empowering individuals to take part in collective action for social change.
ÿ Personal or professional experience working with or in a community of faith strongly preferred.
ÿ Experience in program development and implementation required.
ÿ Excellent listening, relationship building and facilitation skills required.
ÿ Excellent written and verbal skills required. The applicant must be able to develop written materials with little assistance, and to speak effectively on behalf of Faithful Voices with clergy, communities of faith, the media, elected officials, and the public.
ÿ Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and within a team, and have strong time management skills.
ÿ Willingness to travel throughout Iowa and work flexible hours as needed.
ÿ Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint and internet applications required.
This is full-time salaried position. The salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. Excellent benefit package is available, including health insurance and paid leave.
