FIRST ANNUAL IOWA PRIDE INSTITUTE: Part 2

Please Join Us for the

FIRST ANNUAL IOWA PRIDE INSTITUTE: Part 2

Hosted by

Iowa Pride Network and Capital City Pride

WHO: Leaders of Iowa’s LGBT & Allied Organizations

WHEN: Friday, October 3, 2008; 9:00 AM-4:00 PM

WHERE: Des Moines Public Library, Room 2, 1000 Grand Avenue, Des Moines

Parking: Locust Mall Ramp (8th St. & Locust; $7.75 daily)

MISSION:

The Iowa Pride Institute is designed to serve as a catalyst for collaboration by bringing the leaders of Iowa’s LGBT and Allied organizations together to discuss challenges, issues and ideas facing Iowa’s LGBT community and developing proactive strategies to advance our cause of equality and respect.

In June, despite the flooding, the Institute hosted over 15 local and statewide organizations who participated in our Round Table Discussion! From that conversation areas of opportunities and weaknesses were identified; such as:

Weakness: Lack of coordinated event dates and the need for a statewide calendar for events.

Opportunity: The Eychaner Foundation has stepped up and has created an online resource and calendar for Iowa’s LGBT and Allied organizations (http://www.glbtiowa.com/).

Weakness: The need for funding for Iowa’s LGBT organizations.

Opportunity: Participants who attend in October will have the opportunity to participate in a round-table discussion with LGBT Leaders to develop fundraising strategies to support the work of LGBT communities in Iowa.

Weakness: Iowa’s LGBT organizations lack coordinated media plans.

Opportunity: Participants who attend in October will hear from Sarah Kennedy, Media Field Strategist for GLAAD, who will lead a session on how to get your organization’s message in the media.

The Institute’s goal of serving as a catalyst for collaboration is already yielding results for Iowa’s LGBT movement, but there is much more to do. As a way to improve the Institute, we have created an online survey for participating organizations to assess the current state of our movement. Using these results, we will be able to better tailor our round-table discussion and break-out sessions. Please go here to take the survey: IOWA PRIDE INSTITUTE 2008

We would love to have you join us for this conversation.

Please RSVP no later than September 26, 2008 as space is limited to 50 participants!

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to help strengthen Iowa’s LGBT Movement!

RSVP to ryan@iowapridenetwork.org or call 515-371-8355.
