Capital City Pride Planning Meeting Notes - 4-2-09

Here are the meeting notes from 4-2-09:

4-2-09 Meeting
• 6:35 Call to order
• Roll Call
• Introductions
• Look over the agenda
• Committee Chair Updates: CCU
o Communications (Ed)
• Vendor forms are live on web
• Even though sponsors get vendor/parade space, they still need to fill out form
• Thanks to Ed and Tom’s work on posters!
• Pride guide is waiting on a few ads, but is almost ready to go…
o Rules
• Susie Cook is new rules chair, unanimous vote
• Still working on 501©3, but taxes need to be filed first… hopefully by 2 weeks from tonight, it will be filed
o Fundraising (Todd)
• Passed around Beach Party, Volleyball tournament, and event calendar
• Current sponsors
• ING $5000
• Nationwide $3000
• Wells Fargo $3000
• Garden/Saddle $4000
• Liberty Gifts $1000
• Bowman Chiropractic $1000
• One Iowa $500
• Iowa Health $500
• Buddy’s $500
• Rio – still deciding
• Principal – still deciding
• Des Moines Social Club
• Wants to have Pride Art auction
• Participants will pay $5, CCP will get proceeds from door and art
• Anthony and Lora Faracchi will handle getting art
• Will happen probably a Friday night, 6-10pm

• Stephanie from EFR will do $500 sponsorship, we will pay the $405 for interpreting services
• Voted unanimously to approve this
• DeKuyper contacted Todd, they will give us $250 towards our advertising
• All Iowa AIDS benefit will do $500 sponsorship, we will get ½ price ad in their program
• Voted unanimously to approve this
• AIDS project will donate space for us to hold our meetings there
• They will also help with poster distribution/advertising
o Parade (Justin/Marty)
• Wells Fargo will not bring the stagecoach this year
o Pridefest (Stinky)
• Contracts are done for stage, lights, sound, and performers total cost =$10,750
• Need $3250 deposit due by April 8th
• Christine O’Leary (comedienne) will emcee, do whatever else we needed… she usually costs $5000, but she is willing to work with us
• ID Lube is the exclusive lube sponsor, but we can back out of contract
• Kristine W. has relationship with KY
• Entertainment for Sunday is coming along well
• Budget Update (Angela)
o We have $7200 in our account as of right now
o Payments are coming in, then we’ll get things paid
o We’re going to email all invoices that we can from now on
• Stefanie Baker
o Works for Employee and Family Resources
o Has GLBT-anti-tobacco grant
o She did community assessment as part of her grant, and got feedback across the state that some people are looking for more substance-free events
• Review Accountabilities
o Anthony will put something in writing re: Des Moines Social Club fundraiser and email it, group will vote by email on Monday
o Anthony will forward Christine O’Leary’s information to the rest of the group
o Stephanie and Nicholi will write up something about their vision and mission
o Sandy and Angela will type up something on their marriage proposal
• Any new business
o Discussed Sandy Volpaka’s reopening the GLBT Center downtown, and possibly getting her to a meeting to help plan some family-friendly events (possibly re-introducing Pride picnic)
o Discussed an educational component for pride that we will talk more about next meeting
o Sandy and Angela proposed that we have a group marriage or something of the sort as a part of Pride this year

o Next Central Committee Meeting: April 16th at the AIDS project
